Introduction
What is Perfumerai
Your AI-powered
scent advisor
Perfumerai is a boutique AI assistant installed on a tablet in your shop. It helps customers discover their perfect fragrance through conversation — guided by their memories, emotions, and lifestyle.

The customer speaks to it naturally — describing a feeling, a journey, a person — and the AI responds with three tailored perfume recommendations, each with detailed notes and a poetic explanation.

Installation
Step 1 — Install
Add to
Home Screen
Install Perfumerai as a web app on your tablet — it will look and feel like a native app, open full-screen, with no browser toolbar.

Open Safari (iOS) or Chrome (Android/desktop) and navigate to your Perfumerai URL

iOS: tap the Share button"Add to Home Screen". Android: tap the menu (⋮) → "Add to Home Screen"

Name it Perfumerai and confirm. The icon now appears on your home screen

Open from the home screen icon — it launches in full-screen kiosk mode

API Key
Step 2 — API Key
Generate your
OpenAI key
Perfumerai uses your own OpenAI account — you pay OpenAI directly for usage. Typical cost is $2–5 per month for a busy boutique.

Go to platform.openai.com and sign in or create a free account

Navigate to API Keys in the left menu → click "Create new secret key"

Copy the key — it starts with sk-. Store it safely, you can only see it once

Add a credit balance under Billing → $5 lasts months of normal use

Paste the key in the Connect your AI screen when you first log in

Step 3 — Subscribe
Choose your
plan
After logging in, select a plan. Both plans include unlimited access on unlimited devices in one boutique.

Free Trial — 7 days. Full access, no credit card. One-time only per account. Perfect for testing in-store before committing

Monthly — $39.99/month. Unlimited access, all devices, cancel anytime. Includes priority support and early access to new features

After selecting, you will be asked to enter your Boutique name, email, password, and your device PIN

Step 4 — Login
Logging in &

Every tablet requires its own 6-digit device PIN. This protects the device from unauthorised use and prevents subscription abuse.

On the first screen, tap Enter to open the login form

Fill in Boutique name, email, password, and your tablet's 6-digit PIN

Each tablet in your shop has its own unique PIN — set by your account owner

Session stays active for 8 hours — staff don't need to re-enter PIN every time during a shift

Using the
scent advisor
The advisor responds to natural language. Customers can type or staff can type on their behalf. Encourage emotional descriptions — the AI performs best with feelings, not just facts.

Mood: "I want to smell like a rainy afternoon in a Parisian library"

Occasion: "Something for a confident woman going to an important dinner"
·
Memory: "My grandmother's garden in summer — roses and warm earth"

Direct: "Show me Chanel No.5" — the AI will pull any real perfume on demand

Recommendation cards
Reading the
perfume cards
Each response includes three recommendation cards. Each card shows the brand, name, gender badge, a personal reason tied to the customer's story, and the key fragrance notes.

Tap a card to open the full detail panel — projection, sillage, mood tags, and occasions
·
Cards from the curated database open instantly with full detail
·
If a customer asks for a specific perfume not in the database, the AI synthesises it in real-time — same card format, same quality
·
Use the follow-up questions the AI asks to narrow down further

Controls
Header buttons
Staff
controls
The header bar contains tools for staff. Customers should not need these — they are for managing the session and environment.
·
Assist — press to call a staff member to the tablet. A pulsing alert signals someone needs help
·
Photo — captures the three current recommendation cards into a full-screen visual. The customer can screenshot it for reference or to show in-store
·
Night — switches the interface to dark mode. Use in low-light boutique settings
·
Language — switches the advisor language. 12 languages available including Arabic, Japanese, Chinese, Russian
·
New Session — clears the conversation and starts fresh for the next customer

Sleep mode

Sleep mode &

Tap the Perfumerai logo in the top-left corner of the chat screen to open the staff menu. This is hidden from customers.
·
Sleep — enter your 6-digit PIN to lock the tablet into sleep mode. The screen shows only a dim clock. No customer can use the advisor until the PIN is entered again
·
Lock & Exit — enter your PIN to fully log out and return to the splash screen. Use at end of day or when handing the tablet to a different staff member
·
To wake from Sleep — tap anywhere on the screen, enter the correct PIN
·
Sleep state survives a browser refresh — the tablet stays locked even if accidentally reloaded overnight

The Photo button captures the current three perfume recommendations into a beautiful full-screen card layout — designed for screenshotting and sharing.

After the AI gives recommendations, press Photo in the header

The rest of the screen blurs — three elegant cards appear centre-screen

The customer can screenshot the screen to keep their selection, share to Instagram Stories, or show staff when purchasing

Tap anywhere outside the cards, press Exit Photo Mode, or press Escape to return

Best practice
Tips for staff
Getting the best
results
The AI performs best when customers are expressive and specific. Help them open up by asking the right questions.
·
Ask about occasions: "Is this for everyday wear, a special evening, or a gift?"
·
Ask about feelings: "What do you want people to think when they smell you?"
·
Ask about memories: "Is there a smell from your childhood or travels you love?"
·
After the first recommendation, keep refining — tap the card, discuss it, ask the AI to adjust: "Something a little lighter" or "More feminine"
·
Use New Session between customers — never let one customer's session influence the next
